People walk in Agawam in honor of cancer survivors

Those still battling the disease were also honored

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – A group is walking all night in Agawam, Friday night, hoping to cure cancer and support survivors. Starting at 6:00 p.m. Friday, hundreds of walkers and runners took to the track at the School Street Park in Agawam.

The first lap was dedicated to cancer survivors, and those still battling the disease. Walkers also remembered those who lost their battles with cancer.

Maria Scibelli, a breast cancer survivor, said, “They said it was invasive and I had to have a rational mastectomy. So you do what you have to do to survive. I’m still here 16, I think it’s 16 years later.”
