DEERFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – 47 farmers, from the Berkshires to the Pioneer Valley were awarded grant money for infrastructure improvements to their farms. Each farm received $2,500.
The money was donated by Local Farmer Award Partners, the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation, and Big Y. The goal is to strengthen farmers’ ability to compete in the marketplace. Atlas Farms in Deerfield was one of the recipients.
Lily Carone of Atlas Farms told 22News, “Looking forward to the things that we can bring in as far as PV systems and underground hot water storage. The number one thing for us is all about sustainable energy.”
Atlas Farms plans to use that money to make improvements to their greenhouses.
