New Holyoke Soldiers’ Home Superintendent announced

Former superintendent resigned January 31st

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Governor Baker’s Administration announced Tuesday Bennett Walsh will serve as the new Holyoke Soldiers’ Home Superintendent.

Bennet is the son of Springfield City Councilor Kateri Walsh. He’s spent 24 years with the Marine Corps, and is retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He’s serving in South Carolina right now, but plans to transition to western Massachusetts soon.

A formal start date hasn’t been set yet.

Walsh will take over after former superintendent John Barabani resigned January 31st. Barabani previously told 22News he decided to retire after the state ignored his requests for more funding.

Cheryl Lussier-Poppe, the current superintendent at the Chelsea Soldier’s Home, has been the acting superintendent in Holyoke.
