SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Students at Van Sickle Academy and Van Sickle International Baccalaureate School filed into the Carew Street building a little more slowly Tuesday morning.
Azell Cavaan, Communications Director for the Springfield Public Schools, told 22News that each student’s school bag was searched Tuesday, in response to a fight that had taken place outside the building after school let out Monday.
“We implemented a 100% bag check today to display to students that any sort of behavior such as fighting, is taken very seriously in the school,” Cavaan said.
Formerly known as the Van Sickle Middle School, the building now houses two smaller schools- the Van Sickle Academy and Van Sickle International Baccalaureate School, each with their own principal and staff, and about 380 students each.
