Union St. closed due to MGM Springfield construction

Detour signs will be posted in the area

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Union Street is closed between Main Street and East Columbus Avenue for the next 2 to 3 weeks. Workers will connect to the storm drain and sewer system, as well as valve installation work.

All eastbound traffic will be detoured to East Columbus Avenue and State Street. Westbound traffic will be detoured to Main Street and Fremont Street. Detour signs will be posted.

Monique Garreffi of Longmeadow told 22News, “The detour signs are great. The thing is, traffic even at 7 o’clock in the morning is very congested. Unfortunately, it’s stop and go traffic.”

Police will also be monitoring the downtown detour. You can expect to run into delays near Union Street for the next 2 to 3 weeks.
