Don’t “wait a minute” to exercise!

A spokesperson for the study says short intense workouts can also bring significant health benefits

(CNN) – Often time’s people will say they don’t exercise like they should because they don’t have the time. Well a new study says that excuse no longer holds up.

Gotta minute? New research says that’s all the exercise you need to give your health a boost.

According to a study from McMaster University in Canada sixty seconds of high intensity activity does as much good as 45 minutes of a moderate workout.

Researchers took a look at 25 inactive men and assigned them intense or moderate workouts three times a week for about three months.

A portion of the men were in a control group that did no exercise. The study found that the group that did three twenty seconds bursts on an exercise bike over a ten minute period saw similar results as the group that did 45 minutes of continuous cycling at a moderate pace.

That included improved heart and lung fitness, and better insulin levels. A spokesperson for the study says short intense workouts don’t even have to be in a gym climbing a few flights of stairs on your lunch hour can also bring significant health benefits.
