SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Businesses in the Tower Square block were still shut down Thursday morning, due to a lack of power or water. Other businesses on Main Street did open as normal, even though two blocks of roadway were closed.

What you need to know: Downtown Springfield water main break

City Jake’s Cafe is right on the corner of Bridge and Main Streets, right near where the break took place. The restaurant’s owner kept it open throughout the morning, and said his business wasn’t affected and was actually pretty busy.

“There’s a lot of workers downtown, cops downtown taking care of it, and i guess there’s a lot of folks that ended up shutting down in Tower Square, so I’m getting a little bit of business from that,” he said.

Chris Cignoli of the Springfield Department of Public Works told 22News that Main Street and Bridge Street should be re-opened by late Saturday.
