Scooter rider died after collision with duck boat

(CNN/WCVB) – Police are trying to figure out what led to a deadly duck boat accident in downtown Boston. A woman on a scooter was killed after colliding with the amphibious vehicle this Saturday morning.

A beautiful Boston Saturday ended in a tragedy on Beacon Street. Two people on a motor scooter, hit by a duck boat. Dozens of people on board watched in horror.

“It looks like it’s a tragedy, we have one young female deceased and we have approximately, almost 30 people who were on board who were all taken to homicide.”

A male passenger on the scooter suffered only minor injuries. Both were wearing helmets.

Witnesses, who had been enjoying the day in town, were stunned by the site of woman’s shoes strewn on the street and the scooter crushed beneath the tour boat’s tire.

Mos: “It’s just miserable. It’s very hard to see, especially since it’s such a lovely day. So my heart goes out to the family, I heard she was young, so that is even tougher.”

Police worked at the scene for hours, piecing together what happened.

People who live and work in the neighborhood told news center five they are shocked because the intersection is so busy.

Mos: “There is not a lot of speed, you know, most folks are stopped here and I know that duck boat drivers are superb professionals, so it was probably just a terrible accident, a terrible mistake.”
