Damage to Easthampton church prevents service

Structural engineers will check out the interior damage during the coming week

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Damage to the Easthampton Congregational Church prevented the Sunday worship service. Members of the church accepted the invitation to worship Sunday with congregants at First Congregation Church in nearby Southampton.

Easthampton’s Pastor Sherry Tucker told 22News that there was an issue at her more than 100 year old church, “We had our ceiling fall last week, so we had quite a tumultuous week and to be able to come here worshiping together a gospel Sunday was just what we needed to lift everyone’s spirits.”

Norman Taft, from Easthampton, explained to 22News, “I’m grateful for the opportunity for our sister church to extend this hospitality to allow us to come worship here.”

Structural engineers will check out the interior damage during the coming week. Reverend Tucker said they hope to restore the century-old Easthampton church to its former glory, and then some.
