Shoplifters pepper sprayed store clerk in Springfield

Two women walked out of the store with 2 swimming pools, and pepper-sprayed a store clerk

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two women from Springfield are under arrest, accused of using pepper spray on a clerk during an armed robbery Friday afternoon.

Springfield Police Lt. Brian Keenan told 22News the women had walked out of the Big Lots Store at 390 Cooley Street with two children’s swimming pools just before 4:00 p.m. Friday.

“A clerk pursued them out to the parking lot and confronted them,” Lt Keenan told 22News. “That’s when one of them turned and pepper-sprayed her.”

Police had description of their vehicle, a black Nissan. Patrol officers pulled over a suspected vehicle on Mill Street in Springfield’s South End. Lt Keenan said the clerk identified the suspects, two women from Springfield, ages 24 and 25.

The suspects will likely be arraigned on armed robbery charges Monday in Springfield District Court.
