Police in Mass. return stolen purse 14 years later

Mazzaglia says she is really looking forward to developing the film found in the purse

(CNN) – A Massachusetts woman had her purse stolen in 2002. The good news. She did get it back. But it took over a decade later.

It’s a reunion 14 years in the making. A purse. Lost in 2002. Now back in the hands of its owner.

Lisa Hall Mazzaglia, who lost her purse said, “I can’t imagine where it’s been for all these years. Or why someone decided to throw it away the other day.”

Lisa hall Mazzaglia says it all started with a visit from a Seabrook police officer.

Lisa: “and he said Seabrook police have your pocketbook, which was confusing to me because my pocketbook was in the kitchen.”

She explained to the officer it must be a mistake and even joked with him about losing a pocketbook years ago.

Lisa: “We laughed and said well that would be quite a story if that was it.”

But eventually, she went to the police department to check it out.

Lisa: “lo and behold the officer walked out and said do you recognize this and that was the pocketbook that had been stolen from me 14 years ago.”

Turns out an employee at market basket recently found the purse in a trash bin and turned it into police.

Amazingly. Almost everything from 14 years ago was still inside – including her old cellphone, a pager, and even some undeveloped film!

Lisa: “Everything is there! With the exception of the large amount of cash, they missed a few dollars, but everything is there basically as it was 14 years ago.  So it was kind of like receiving a little time capsule.”

Mazzaglia says someone took the purse right before Christmas in 2002. While she was packing gifts in her car to donate to a family in need. But now, she’s just thankful for the good Samaritan who helped get it back to her.

Lisa: “it’s nice that this many years later it turned around because someone was kind enough to turn it in and I got something back.

Mazzaglia says she really looking forward to developing the film found in the purse.
