City Councilor: Mason Square neighborhoods needs more treatment centers

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – 30 residents gathered at the Rebecca Johnson School in Springfield Thursday night to explore ways to help people they know impacted by the opioid crisis.

Springfield City Councilor Bud Williams told 22News the Mason Square neighborhoods needs more treatment centers; “Mostly Hispanic, blacks and poor whites, really have access to treatment on demand, which are beds, which is one of our objectives.”

Springfield Health and Human Services director Hellen Caulton Harris urged neighbors not to let opioids and heroin take over their community.
