NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A State Police dog found an elderly man who disappeared from an assisted living facility in Northampton Wednesday night.

According to the Massachusetts State Police Facebook page, just before midnight Wednesday, K9 Riggs picked up a scent and followed a trail into the woods, through an abandoned camp and heavy brush.

The police dog’s handler, Trooper Sean Kenney, heard a cry for help and found the man lying on the ground unable to move. Police said the man was about a mile into the woods, with cuts and bruises. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.
