SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A multi-family condo building caught fire in Springfield Thursday night, and at least one woman will have to find another place to stay.
When 22News arrived at 116 – 120 Longhill Street, the flames were out, but fire crews were still investigating the cause. The Arson and Bomb Squad later determined that an electrical problem started the fire in a vacant condo unit.
Springfield Fire Spokesman Dennis Leger told 22News the fire started in the 4th floor condominium, which is vacant. The condominium is on the top floor; Leger said the fire went through the roof.
He said water damaged the unit directly under it, and that the American Red Cross is assisting one woman with finding someplace to stay Thursday night. The four people who live on the third floor are out of state, but they’ve been notified of the fire.
Leger added that the fire caused $50,000 in damage.
