Experts advise you to review your bank and credit card statements often

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Student loan debt tripled from 2004 to 2012, to reach a staggering $966-billion.

AIC Financial Aid Director Sage Stachoiak told 22News, “I always encourage students to work even if its 10 hours a week, part time on campus, something like that; this way their contributing to their education.”

13-million Americans have been victimized by Identity theft. “It takes months, if not years to clear your good name;” Milagros Johnson of the Springfield Mayor’s Office of Consumer Information told 22News identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America. It’s crucially important to protect your identity.

“Never ever share their personal information with anyone, unless they know who they’re sharing it with,” said Johnson. “They need to make sure if they’re doing online banking or using the internet to make online purchases, that the website is secure.”

Experts advise you to review your bank and credit card statements often. It’s important to monitor your credit report. Federal law allows you a free copy of your credit report every year.
