2nd UMass student found dead in 24-hour period

Deaths of Aaron Beltzer and Jonathan Shaw not believed to be connected

HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – Two university of Massachusetts students died over a 24-hour period Wednesday. Mary Carey from the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office told 22News that 26 year-old Aaron Beltzer was found dead at his home in Hadley on Wednesday morning. His death is not being considered suspicious.

Also on Wednesday, 24 year-old Jonathan Shaw was found dead in his room on the UMass campus, according to university spokesperson Ed Blaguszewski.

Neither death is being considered suspicious at this time. Carey said that there is no indication that either of the two deaths were connected.

Beltzer was a student in the geosciences department from Wayne, New Jersey.

Shaw was a mathematics major from Newton, Massachusetts.
