NORTHAMMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – The International Language Institute in Northampton, Wednesday night, honored refugees looking to better their lives by learning English.
The Institute held its 4th annual “Giving Voice” fundraiser. Community members, businesses, and volunteers gathered for the goal of funding free English classes for immigrants and their families.
Guests learned more about the struggles immigrants face while trying to overcome a language barrier.
Board Member of the Institute Deanna Kloepfer told 22News, “They know that language is a key barrier that they need to break down, in order to integrate into the community and improve on the opportunities for them and their families.”
The organization offers free English speaking evening classes to refugees and their families. The International Language Institute helps more than 50 families learn English every year.
