NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Plans are underway for a gun buyback program to begin this spring in Northampton. Those who turn in their guns will receive a $50 gift card for each firearm handed in with no questions asked.
All firearms must be in working condition, unloaded, and delivered in a bag. Ammunition will be accepted, but not rewarded.
Some say buyback programs are a good initiative, but they’re not the solution to get guns out of the wrong hands. “It’s always important in different communities where there are high crime rates to have more options available to people that are involved in crime,” said Gabriella Oddo of Northampton.
Northampton’s buyback day will be held on June 11th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Northampton Police Station. Another will be held that same day and time at the Greenfield Police Station and Amherst Police Station.
