SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield Central Cultural District (SCCD) is looking for some good ideas for their latest beautification project in downtown Springfield. They are planning to paint murals on the utility boxes in the downtown area, and are asking artists to submit ideas and designs.

Two such boxes- located at Stearns Square- were already painted last summer, as part of the Springfield Under the Stars movie nights. “The reception was amazing. We want to continue that momentum,” said SCCD Executive Director Morgan Drewniany.

The theme for the project is “unexpected beauty.” Artists whose work is selected will be compensated for their materials and will be paid for their time.

Applications are due May 3. If you are interested, e-mail Morgan Drewniany at or call (413) 781-1592.
