Martell was drinking from an open whiskey bottle on the beach

ABINGTON, Mass. (WWLP) – The holiday weekend allegedly got off to a bad start for 55-year-old Paul Martell from the Boston suburb of Abington.

State Police claim Martell was armed with a loaded handgun on Nantasket Beach.

A passerby alerted police that Martell was drinking from an open whiskey bottle on the beach. A search of his car allegedly turned up more weapons, knives, a hatchet, a dagger and a machete.

The passerby who called the police had said Martell was behaving aggressively towards his own dog.
