The Belchertown Police Department is no stranger to controversy.

In September, former Police Chief Francis Fox resigned following an alleged drunk driving incident. The town has been searching for his replacement ever since.

Last week, they interviewed the final three candidates for the position Amherst Police Captain Christopher Pronovost, Northampton Police Lt. Robert Powers, and Sturbridge Police Lt. Mark Saloio.

Pronovost told 22News he’s ready to move the town in the right direction.”Do some evaluation on where the department is at and where it needs to go and really try to get things moving in a good direction again. And get the town and the department together again, said” Capt.Pronovost.

Captain Pronovost still has some work to do before he can start.

The town still has to check his background, and negotiate a contract, which could take several weeks.
