Man killed in Palmer house fire identified

Two other people and a dog made it out safe

PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) – The Hampden County District Attorney’s Office announced on Thursday 69-year-old Curtis Penoyer was the elderly man who died in a house fire in Palmer’s Bondsville neighborhood.

Bondsville Fire Chief Scott Gustafson said the fire at 30-55 Pine Street appeared to have started in the living room. That’s where Penoyer’s body was found.

Two other people and a dog living in the home were able to get out. Firefighters had to give the dog oxygen on the front lawn.

The cause of the fire has not been determined yet. Penoyer’s death marks the 12th time in 2016 someone has died in a fire in Massachusetts.
