Gun-waving bank robber evades Springfield Police

The robber ordered TD Bank tellers to empty their cash drawers

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A bank robber got away with a bag filled with cash after waving a pistol during a holdup of the Boston Road TD Bank branch in Springfield Wednesday night.

“He walked into the lobby at 1800 Boston Road at about 5 O’clock,” Springfield Police Lt. Brian Keenan told 22News. “He took out a silver-and-black handgun and waved it for everyone in the bank to see.”

Lt. Keenan said the robber ordered the tellers to empty their cash drawers and dump the money in a bag. The suspect, described as a 6-foot-tall black man, weighing about 180 pounds, left the bank with a bag filled with cash, and ran down Stocker Street where police lost track of him.

The Wilbraham Police Department helped Springfield Police search for the suspect, assisted by their Police Dog, but the suspect got away, Lt. Keenan said.

Lt Keenan said the robber was wearing sunglasses and possibly a wig. Springfield Police detectives may release video surveillance images on Thursday.

The TD Bank branch at 1800 Boston Road normally closes at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday nights.
