CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee Police say that a man seen on surveillance video picking up a wallet left unattended inside a Dunkin’ Donuts, told them he was intending to return it to his owner.

The images were taken at the Dunkin’ Donuts inside the Shell gas station on West Street Monday night.

Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News that the man from the video came into Chicopee police headquarters shortly before 2:30 Wednesday morning, after being told by friends that his image had been shared on Facebook and on the news.

Wilk says the man told police he found the wallet, picked it up, and put it in his car for safekeeping. He added that he intended to mail it back to its rightful owner.

The wallet is now in the process of being returned to its owner.

No charges have been filed at this time against the man who turned the wallet in, but his information has been shared with detectives.
