Western Massachusetts hit by April snowstorm

Combination of snow and wind caused whiteout conditions

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – The snow was coming down heavily in certain parts of Western Massachusetts early Sunday morning.

It might be April, but it looks like winter in Agawam. The snow is the heavy wet snow that feels like you’re being rained on when it’s falling, and can be difficult to shovel after it has accumulated.

Some snow accumulated on the grass and side roads, but melted quickly on many of the main roads, covering them with slush.

If you’re driving Sunday morning, keep in mind that the roads are slick, so you’ll want to keep a safe distance between you and the car in front of you. You should also give yourself extra time to clean off your car and drive slower than usual.

The combination of snow and wind also made it difficult to see, especially on highways.

The wind will continue to pick up all day Sunday.
