SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A woman in her 20’s suffered a shoulder wound in what was reported to police as a “drive-by shooting” in Springfield’s Forest Park, Wednesday afternoon.
“It may be a pellet,” Springfield Police Captain Robert Strempek told 22News. “We’re waiting to see what the doctor takes out of the wound in her upper arm.”
Captain Strempek said the city’s “shot spotter system” was not activated at the time the woman was shot outside 131 Leyfred Terrace in Springfield, at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday.
He said said an anonymous caller reported the shooting and hung up. Police believe a small grey car was involved.
Captain Strempek added that the doctor told police detectives he suspected the wound may have been caused by a pellet. Police were waiting for results of the medical procedure to remove the projectile.
