‘Safe Zone’ for internet purchases considered in Wilbraham

Buying online has become popular over the last several years

WILBRAHAM, Mass. (WWLP) – While many people make purchases online, some still end up meeting in person to make the exchange. Whether it be a car off of Craigslist or some accessories off of eBay, consumers rarely get to know who they are buying from before they meet in person.

Some police departments in eastern Massachusetts have created a space for both parties to meet that is under constant surveillance. The Wilbraham Police Department is hoping to do the same when their new police headquarters is built, and got a large response from residents on their Facebook page when they mentioned doing it.

Wilbraham Police Sgt. Jeff Rudinski told 22News, “It’s something that really doesn’t cost a lot of money since we are building a new police station; thought it would be something that the members of the town would like so I threw it out there and the response was overwhelming. Had about 11,000 hits on the post.”

Construction on the new Wilbraham Police Department recently started. The new facility will be right next to the Fire Department and will be completed in about a year.
