WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Lane closures on the Massachusetts Turnpike will impact drivers near Exit 4 in West Springfield. They weren’t supposed to start until Thursday, but crews were already out there working when 22News drove by Wednesday afternoon.
The closures on Wednesday were already causing some backups. If you usually drive near Exit 4 on the Mass Pike, you might want to plan ahead Thursday morning. MassDOT said crews will close the inside, left lane on both the Eastbound and Westbound sides.
Kevin Clark of Westfield told 22News he’s been leaving his house earlier than usual to avoid the backups on the Pike. “I mean it’s definitely a little slower than normal. I’ve traveled it three or four times this past week but I’ve gotten to where I’ve had to go on time. I just figured with traffic, leave a couple of minutes early, and it all worked out.”
During the closures, crews will be doing utility work for the ongoing, guardrail replacement project in the median of the highway. MassDOT said the lanes should be back open by Thursday evening.
