Homeless man caught breaking into mansion in Longmeadow

Police dogs were used to find the suspect

LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – Longmeadow Police arrested Rafael Mendrell Wednesday night in a vacant mansion.

Longmeadow Police Sgt. Donald Jacek told 22News that a neighbor saw someone break in through a window at the Brewer-Young Mansion on Longmeadow Street at about 6:00 p.m.

Several officers, with the help of a police dog, arrested Mendrell inside the house. The 25-year-old from Hartford was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering During the Daytime and Malicious Damage over $250.

Mendrell surrendered when he was tracked down on the third floor by Police Dog, “Kai.”
