Winds in Westhampton leave hundreds without power overnight

Winds hit up to 51mph Tuesday morning

WESTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Wind swept through western Massachusetts Monday night into Tuesday morning.

The wind was whipping late Monday night and it left some households without the lights working when it came time to wake up in the morning.

The wind was whipping in Westhampton well after the wind advisory went into effect. Overnight, about 700 residents lost power, but it was restored within a couple of hours. A couple trees that couldn’t stand the force of the wind toppled over and any branches that were weak gave way.

Robert LaPalme of Westhampton said he was left without power for a short time, “About 3 a.m. I got waken up by the roaring wind that was coming through. It was pretty awesome actually, but our power went out right about that time. Came on pretty quickly thereafter but it was definitely ripping last night.”

Some of the strongest wind gusts measured Tuesday were in Westfield at 51 miles per hour.
