Construction on rail car factory in Springfield underway

The factory is expected to create 150 jobs

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Construction for the $95-million Rail Car Manufacturing Facility is underway in Springfield. The China-based CRRC will design and manufacture rail cars for Boston’s public transit system.

rail carsSpringfield Chief Development Officer Kevin Kennedy told 22News the location on Page Boulevard is expected to finish in June 2017, and be open for business that fall. The factory is expected to create 150 jobs once it’s open.

Kennedy said there are potential deals for CRRC in Philadelphia and New York. If those contracts are solidified, those trains could be built in Springfield.
