Celebrating success: Dress for Success helping women find work

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Members of the business community gathered in Springfield Tuesday, to celebrate their efforts to empower women.

The special breakfast was held at Mercy Medical Center for Dress for Success, a national nonprofit organization that literally dresses women for a job interview, for free. But they do more than just dress the women.

At the breakfast, they thanked the 64 referring agencies, who teach women the skills they need to ace an interview and remain employed. They also help the women to find work.

“A woman can’t just come into Dress for Success, walk into the boutique and say, ‘I need an outfit for an interview.’ She has to come in through one of our referring agencies, and we work very closely with them and we have a tremendous partnership,” said Dawn Creighton, President of Western Massachusetts Dress for Success.

Those at the breakfast also watched an emotional video showing how women’s lives have changed completely because of Dress for Success.

The nonprofit organization’s Common Threads fashion show is April 28. If you are interested in making donations or getting involved with Dress for Success, click here.
