LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – A new report released on Tuesday lists the Top 50 Safest Cities in Massachusetts, and only one western Mass. community made the list.

1 in western Mass.

Longmeadow ranked as the 31st safest place to live in our state.

The list was compiled by the “BackgroundChecks” organization. It’s a public safety group that looked at its own research, along with FBI crime reports and social media.

Our list was compiled based on FBI violent crime stats and propriety BackgroundChecks.org research data. Rates are normalized per 100,000 residents with the state average being 391 for violent crime and 1,857 for property crime. This is calculated by taking (# of crimes/population) * 100,000. –The safest cities in Massachusetts 2016

Sara Sciarrino of Longmeadow told 22News, “The school system is very nice and the community is good. There’s very little crime and everyone just comes together. It’s really nice.”

“Not surprising at all. We moved back here, I grew up here and was gone for several years, and then moved back in August because it’s just such a great place to raise a family, for kids. The schools are great, there’s sidewalks, which is huge with young kids. It’s just a nice community,” Kim Liguori of Longmeadow said.

North Attleborough was ranked the #1 safest place to live in Massachusetts.
