PLAINVILLE, Mass. (WWLP) – Massachusetts is getting ready to launch a first-in-the-nation slot machine meant to prevent people from developing a gambling addiction.

The “Play My Way” system allows players to limit how much money they’re betting. The state’s only slot parlor, Plainridge Park located in Plainville, will pilot the new technology by the end of May.

The electronic system would allow casino patrons to set up daily, weekly or monthly betting limits.

State Rep. Joe Wagner of Chicopee told 22News, “We think these are progressive things that will help us get ahead of the curve involving addictive gambling and compulsive gambling.”

The electronic system would alert a casino patron when they’re approaching their betting limit. They’ll never be cut off, so they would have to choose to keep playing.
