SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation was at the Basketball Hall of Fame with new information on the I-91 reconstruction project.
MassDOT said crews are currently demolishing the bridge deck on I-91 northbound, and when that’s done in about two weeks, they’ll start rebuilding the deck. Then in June, crews will do the same thing on the southbound.
Barbara Richard of Springfield said so far, the traffic hasn’t been too bad. “I’m normally coming up from the south. I live in the Forest Park area. You have to slow down but it keeps going.”
MassDOT said by the end of the year, the bridge decks on the outer lanes of 91 north and south will be finished. Then crews will replace the decks on the inner lanes.
Construction is expected to be complete in the fall of 2017.
