CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The last thing a horror film should make you do, is to instantly recall where you’ve seen the same story done much better.

“The Other Side of the Door” is an Inferior Stephen King “Pet Sematary” rip-off. The one about the dead coming back to make your life miserable.

When he son accidentally drowns, mom Sarah Wayne Callies is determined to bring him back one way or the other. Since the family conveniently relocated to India, the mystical possibilities are endless. Where even the housekeeper knows how to shorten the distance between the living and the dead.

Since Sarah obviously never read “Pet Sematary”, we’re way ahead of the final fade out. As well we should be. The trouble with today’s supernatural chillers, they’re all so predictable.

And it’s all so slow moving. The pacing must have gotten stuck somewhere between heaven and that other place. But at least, the acting’s better than we’ve come to expect from this generation of chillers.

Horror fans just shouldn’t expect too much in the way of shock value coming from “The Other Side of the Door”. Where this watered down Stephen King Imitation is lucky enough to salvage 2 stars. So much for what’s really there, “The Other Side of the Door”.
