HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Because of the mild winter the run up to next week’s Holyoke St. Patrick’s parade weekend has been free of the parade route clean up anxiety.
Turn back the calendar by one year and this is what we’d see. DPW crews spending the first week in March removing the remnants of a brutal winter but this year there is no snow ice clogging the arteries along the one mile and a half parade route. Some homes along the thoroughfare are already welcoming next week’s crowds.
Dewey Evans is originally from Tennessee. But he’s become such a dyed in the wool Holyoke, he puts out chairs on his lawn for paradegoers. His hospitality doesn’t end there.
Dewey told 22News, “I put corn beef and cabbage in the kitchen. And I hand them out no charge or nothing and about 150 hot dogs for people.”
With good weather come sizable crowds. We’re just one week away from Saturday’s 41st annual road race followed by the 65th annual Holyoke St. Patrick’s parade the next day.
