CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — Cambridge police are investigating after a group of people set fire to an American flag in the parking lot of an apartment building in the city.

Residents of the building took video of Wednesday’s incident and called police. They say four people they did not know were blaring music, picking up the flag, kicking it, pouring liquor on it and repeatedly lighting it on fire. At times, they would take pictures or video.

Before police arrived, the group left in a car with New York plates.

While it is not illegal to burn a flag, police say the group left its burning embers on the ground, which constitutes reckless conduct.

The fire department put out the fire.
