Preventing gambling addictions with technology

The goal is to encourage responsible gaming

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The “Play My Way” system allows slot players to personalize their play by setting a budget before they begin gambling.

The system gives players automatic notifications to help keep track of their spending. This system would be a first-of-its-kind in a U.S. casino. The goal is to encourage responsible gaming.

Nadia Mateos of Springfield told 22News, “I think we should have it. I don’t want to say it’s controlling, but if you have a gambling addiction, it does help with that, so you can say, ‘Oh, I only have $100 today. I can come back tomorrow if I needed to.’”

The system is custom-designed for Massachusetts casinos. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission wants to do a test run of the system at the Plainridge Park Casino.
