AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Police officer Ashley Guindon will be laid to rest on Monday. Her funeral is private and will take place at Agawam Funeral Home on 184 Main Street Agawam. The mass will follow at 11:00AM at Sacred Heart Church on 395 Chestnut Street in Springfield. Her body will then be taken to its final resting place, at St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery on 420 Kings Highway in West Springfield.
Officer Guindon’s wake is Sunday between 2:00PM – 6:00PM at Agawam Funeral Home.
On Sunday, Main St. will be closed to through-traffic between Cooper St. and Suffield St. between the hours of 1PM – 6PM.
Monday – Procession Route Information:
The procession route from the Agawam Funeral Home: Main Street in Agawam over the Agawam/West Springfield bridge to Memorial Avenue. The procession will travel down Memorial Avenue and go over the Memorial Bridge into Springfield. In Springfield it will travel on Boland Way, making a left on Main Street, turning right onto Liberty Street before ending at Sacred Heart Church on Chestnut Street.
From the church, the procession will travel toward Carew Street, making a left onto Carew Street. It will continue onto West Street over the North End Bridge down Park Street, making a right onto Elm Street before making a left onto Kings Highway towards the cemetery.
Agawam is closing Main Street from Cooper Street to the Agawam/West Springfield bridge by the Big E from 8:00AM to 11:00AM.
The intersection at the bridge will be closed for the procession.
School buses and parents dropping kids off to school will be allowed access as well as employees of businesses in the affected area.
Springfield will close Chestnut Street from Carew to Liberty Street from 9:00AM to 12:00PM. Also at 9:30AM Springfield will close Main Street, Liberty Street and Chestnut Streets on the procession route until the procession clears.
Once the procession gets to Memorial Avenue, Springfield will shut down Boland Way and the East Columbus and Main Street intersections until the procession passes. Around 12:00PM police will block Carew, Main and West Street along the procession route to the North End Bridge until the procession passes by.
If you would like to show your support for the fallen officer, Springfield police are asking you to line up on Main Street between Boland Way and Worthington Street prior by 10AM.
West Springfield will restrict traffic as the procession travels through over the North End Bridge to Park Street, Elm Street and finally to Kings Highway. That should last about 10-15 minutes on Memorial Avenue after the funeral.
West Springfield is encouraging people to line up along Park, Elm and King Highway into the cemetery for her final ride to her resting place by noon.
