CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Greater Chicopee Chamber of Commerce held their annual Night of Shining Stars Gala Friday night.
200 people filled the Castle of Knights for the event that recognizes outstanding members of the community. Retiring Hampden County Sheriff Michael Ashe was honored as the citizen of the year.
Sheriff Ashe had a philosophical answer when 22News asked him about the controversy surrounding the new location of the Western Massachusetts Correctional Addiction Treatment Center. “Yes, there are some other mountains we want to climb, but there will always be. I guess, whenever you’re striving for excellence, you’re always doing that.”
The treatment facility’s new location will be at the former Ring Nursing Home on Mill Street, with hopes of moving in by the end of the year.
