Light snow led to heavy volume of accidents in WMass

Light snow started falling across western Mass. Friday morning.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Light snow across western Massachusetts caused slippery road conditions Friday morning.

State Police Trooper Mark Weiner from the Springfield barracks told 22News that there were six car accidents reported in their patrol area in just a period of just three minutes.

At the height of the accidents, a section of Interstate 391 was temporarily shut down to northbound traffic in Chicopee near Exit 4.

Trooper Weiner said the MassDOT is deploying trucks to treat the roads. Crews will also be out changing the electronic sign boards on highways to warn drivers of the slippery conditions.
