SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Spirit of Springfield is celebrating 25 years of bringing the community together!
To honor the notable year, the organization dedicated their annual breakfast Tuesday to thanking the sponsors, supporters, and volunteers who helped raised funds and plan each event over the years.
Spirit of Springfield President Judy Matt told 22News that their mission has been to celebrate the city’s biggest, best and brightest.
“We started with the pancake breakfast, and we do the Fourth of July, and the balloon parade, all the inaugurals for the city, and then Bright Nights came along,” Matt said. “Yes we have gotten bigger, but we have the same mission: and that’s to help our community to celebrate.”
Eleven people were awarded special jackets for their efforts.
It is estimated that the non-profit organization has helped entertain 12 million people in the past 25 years, since it began in 1989.
