SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A Virginia police officer who was killed in the line of duty during her first day on the job will be laid to rest in West Springfield next week. Officer Ashley Guindon of the Prince William County Police Department was shot Saturday evening while answering a call about a “verbal argument.”
While the 28 year-old had previously lived in New Hampshire before relocating to Virginia, Guindon was born in Springfield and had strong ties to western Massachusetts. Her uncle, Thomas Guindon, is a detective with the West Springfield Police Department.
A memorial service for Guindon took place in Woodbridge, Virginia on Tuesday, with later services being held in western Massachusetts.
A funeral is expected to be held Monday in Springfield. Guindon will buried next to her father at St. Thomas Cemetery in West Springfield.
According to her obituary, a second gathering of family and friends will be at the Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main Street, Agawam, on Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm.
