Longmeadow PD & FD work to prevent overdose deaths

Addiction is not a problem specific to young adults

LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – The Longmeadow police and fire departments addressed the opiate epidemic and an uptick in overdoses in the area.

The goal was to educate the community in an effort to prevent future tragedy. Longmeadow Fire Chief John Dearborn told 22News addiction is not a problem specific to young adults.

Chief Dearborn said it affects people of all races, gender and age; “We see all the way from younger folks using it to all the way up to the elderly where its medication errors from opioid painkillers.”

The departments addressed the signs, symptoms and effects of drug and opiate use, and the resources available for treatment.
