East Longmeadow Police Chief candidates interviewed

The first interview started at 6:15 p.m. at the Town Hall

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – 1 of the 3 candidates running for Police Chief of East Longmeadow dropped out Monday evening. Jeff Farnsworth did not attend his scheduled interview with the town’s Board of Selectman, and did not explain why.

The 2 remaining candidates are Jeffrey Dalessio and Daniel O’Brien. O’Brien was a former West Springfield Police Captain who was let go after allegedly taping a woman down to a chair when she was brought to the police station.

The first interview started at 6:15 p.m. at the Town Hall. The board said they’re looking for an individual who is experienced, proactive, and eager to work directly with the residents of East Longmeadow.

Selectman Angela Thorpe told 22News the board is looking for someone to help tackle the opiate addiction crisis. “If the police chief is in the neighborhood and is an everyday-guy, they might be more willing to come to him for some help.”

The Board of Selectmen said they are aiming to announce the new police chief sometime this week.
