EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Holyoke and State Police assisted Easthampton Police arrest a Springfield man suspected of breaking into a home Friday morning near Stone Path Lane.
According to Easthampton Police Capt. Robert Alberti, around 9:18 a.m. Friday, the department received a call from a homeowner who allegedly stopped a man trying to break into his home by breaking down the front door.
The homeowner described the suspect, later identified as 50-year-old Roberto Hernandez, and the white pickup truck he drove away in, which was leaking oil. Capt. Alberti said Holyoke Police Officers saw Hernandez’s truck on Easthampton Road in Holyoke.
Holyoke Police stopped the truck on the on-ramp to Route 91 South; the Massachusetts State Police assisted. Capt. Alberti said the truck was still leaking a lot of oil. Easthampton Police were then called to Route 91 to continue their investigation.
Hernandez was arrested by the Easthampton Police for Breaking and Entering in the Daytime, Habitual Offender, and Wanton Destruction of Property. Capt. Alberti said Hernandez was previously arrested in October of 2015 in Springfield for breaking and entering in the daytime and possession of heroin.
