UMass assault suspect to be arraigned Monday

BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WWLP) – William McKeown will be arraigned Monday at Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown.

McKeown is charged with armed robbery and assault. He and another suspect were allegedly let into the Pierpont dorm at UMass Amherst on Thursday. Once inside, 19-year-old McKeown allegedly assaulted a student, possibly with a handgun. No shots were fired.

The incident forced UMass to issue a shelter-in-place order for the entire campus.

McKeown turned himself into police in Framingham on Friday.
