Survivor Journeys provides support for cancer survivors

Survivor Journeys will host a fundraising wine tasting event at Lattitude

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Western Massachusetts cancer survivors have a relatively new supportive organization to look towards, for emotional strength.

Springfield area physician Dr. Jay Burton founded Survivor Journeys less than a year ago.

Dr. Burton, a cancer survivor himself, said the organization provides social and emotional support through cancer-specific groups.

Dr. Burton told 22News he’s convinced of the benefits of one on one mentoring. “People who are further along on their journey mentor people who are starting. Meaning that if you are a forty-year-old woman with breast cancer, we try to match you with someone with exactly the same circumstances.”

Next Friday, February 26th, Survivor Journeys will host a fundraising wine tasting event at Lattitude restaurant in West Springfield, from 7 until 11 P.M.
