Holyoke crowns this year’s Grand Colleen

This was 62nd time Holyoke has crowned a grand colleen

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Saturday night was a very important night leading up to this year’s Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade.

The city of Holyoke crowned Meghan Ryan as their Grand Colleen for 2016 parade. She will sit atop the parade float, surrounded by her court, the four other finalists.

Since that parade is held in Holyoke, the Holyoke Colleen is traditionally the leader of all the colleens selected by other cities and towns.

22News was there as Meghan was crowned, a moment she told us she’s been dreaming about her entire life. “Just presenting myself in a good way, and being a role model to girls in Holyoke. To be an ambassador for my Irish heritage and to show it in a positive way.”

This was 62nd time Holyoke has crowned a Grand Colleen. The coronation ball was held at the Log Cabin.

The 65th annual Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade will be held on Sunday, March 20th.
